Straight answers about Skald, billing, and how the audio toolkit works.
Is the music AI-generated?
Yep. I built Skald because I wanted a massive, constantly-growing library without licensing nightmares, hundreds of tracks and loops that would otherwise cost a fortune (or a legal team) to source. Every track is still curated by me for tabletop RPG sessions, not just dumped in. I edit the audio before uploading to ensure consistent quality. If that's a dealbreaker for you, no hard feelings, I get it, and I'd rather you know upfront than find out later.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free gets you a limited number of scenes and sessions with full access to the audio library, enough to run real games. Pro removes those limits (unlimited scenes and sessions) and unlocks custom audio uploads, so you can drop in your own tracks alongside the built-in library.
How does billing work? Can I cancel anytime?
Pro is billed monthly or annually, and you can cancel anytime through your account settings. No phone calls, no runaround. You'll keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period.
Do you offer refunds?
All purchases are non-refundable, per our Terms of Service. If something's wrong or you're unhappy with the service, email me at support@skaldsoundboard.com and I'll do what I can to make it right.
Can I delete my account and my data?
Email support@skaldsoundboard.com and I'll take care of it directly. A self-serve option is on my list to build, but for now this gets it done quickly.
How does the layering system work?
Click Add Layer, then Browse to pull up the list of ambient sounds. Ambient tracks are sorted into three groups. Start with Base, the faint background noise that sets the scene, like some calm ocean waves. Next add Texture, the louder sounds that fill things out, like ocean wind. Last comes Foreground, the loud sounds you notice right away, like seagulls. If there's more than one option for a sound, give them a listen before picking. Close seagulls might be way too loud and in your face, while distant ones blend into the scene much better.
Can I upload my own music or sound effects?
That's a Pro feature. Upload your own tracks and use them right alongside the built-in library, same layering system, same tools. Custom uploads are capped at 500 MB total storage per account to keep things sustainable.
What's coming next?
Skald keeps growing. Pro users will eventually be able to request and vote on new music additions, so the library grows based on what people actually want at the table, not just what I happen to add. Beyond that, I'm continuing to expand based on feedback, so if something's missing, tell me.
